NCYC stands for the National Catholic Youth Conference, which is a large national gathering of high school teens and youth ministry volunteers held every two years in Indianapolis. This event is happening, but our parish decided not to attend this year. A limited number tickets became available earlier this spring, when teens were not yet able to receive the vaccine. Now that vaccines are widely available, we are open to attending youth gatherings.
Several parishes in our diocese also decided not to attend NCYC in Indianapolis for similar reasons. We are working together to create a satellite event in Iowa City. This event is NCYC 2.0 and will be held at the Highlander Hotel in Iowa City the same weekend as NCYC in Indianapolis, November 18-21. We will have some events live streamed from Indianapolis as well as in person speakers and activities. This will be a great opportunity for our youth to get to meet other Catholic teens from our Diocese.
We will be charging $50 for this event per person with funds from the parish and the Autumn Festival covering the bulk of the fee. The final date for registration is October 1- but earlier notice would be better.
Contact Kelley Tansey if you are interested in attending NCYC 2.0. We will be taking youth in grades 9-12 and adult chaperone/drivers.
