Traditionally First Communion is received in the Spring of the child's second grade school year, sometimes a family chooses to wait until the child is older.* Families preparing their child to receive First Communion should participate in Family Formation in the years leading up to second grade and continue in the years after receiving First Communion.
Children will also attend the Reconciliation preparation in the Fall and receive their first Reconciliation in January. Preparation for First Communion will begin in the Spring semester. First communicants and their parents will be required to participate in First Communion preparation as well as First Reconciliation preparation.
We are using the Family Formation Sacramental Preparation program. This program is designed to be used alongside the Family Formation program that we are using for families with children in grades K-6.
Children in sacramental prep meet in classrooms once per month at the same time as the Family Formation classes gather. These children are taught from Sacramental Prep Lessons instead of the regular Family Formation Classroom Lessons.
At home, parents use the Sacramental Prep Home Lesson books to guide them through discussions and activities with their child that will help them learn more about the Sacrament of the Eucharist and the teachings of the Church. These sacramental prep Home Lessons take approximately 15 minutes per week. Families preparing their child for Sacraments are also encouraged to do the Family Formation home lessons so that the family can learn more about Church teachings together. We will begin our next group in September, 2023. Online registration is open now: Click HERE
*Children must be Baptized before receiving other Sacraments. If your child is not yet Baptized and is under the age of 7, please contact the office to discuss preparing for and arranging for Baptism with Father Connolly. If your child is unbaptized and 7 years old or older, contact the office and ask for Kelley Tansey to discuss a plan for preparing for the Sacraments.
JOIN THE FIRST COMMUNION PREP TEAM! First Communion Prep Team members will help prepare families for their child receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time.
