Faith Formation has a number of volunteer Teams: Family Formation, Youth Ministry, RCIA, College, Adult/Lifelong Learning. These are groups of interested parishioners who help brainstorm and implement plans for faith formation programs in the Parish. If any of these teams interest you, please contact Kelley Tansey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Family Formation Team meets monthly to discuss the upcoming month's Family Formation program. Volunteers on the FF Team serve as catechists, babysitters, and parent coaches. The Family Formation program serves families with children in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. These families gather once a month for faith formation at the parish and then complete the rest of their work at home. All interested teens and adult parishioners are welcome to be part of the FF Team.
Youth Ministry serves youth in grades 7-12, including those preparing for Confirmation. Youth Ministry meets every week on Wednesday evenings. We are using a small group format to encourage community building and faith sharing. This year we have one group for Middle Schoolers, one group for 9th graders, and one group serving grades 10-12 who are preparing for Confirmation in March 2022. The Youth Ministry Team of volunteers meets outside of the regular weekly youth gathering to plan for upcoming sessions and any special events, such as service opportunities and retreats.
When older youth and adults wish to receive the sacraments, they need people to accompany them through this process. We are looking to create a team that will help develop a year-round RCIA program in our parish. Having a year-round program means that if someone approaches the parish and is interested in starting this process, they do not have to wait for a class starting at a set time of year. We want to be able to immediately start working with them. We are looking for volunteers to work directly with inquirers on faith formation and/or breaking open the word at Mass. No expertise necessary- just a love of your faith and a desire to walk with someone on this journey.
We are looking to build a team of parishioners who will work to reach out to our neighbors at Iowa Wesleyan as well as maintain contact with our homegrown young people who have graduated high school. We have information tables at the IWU campus for move-in day and at the beginning of the semester. Join the College Outreach Team to brainstorm other ways to make connections.
Faith Formation does NOT end with Confirmation. We are looking to build a team of parishioners who are interested in developing lifelong learning opportunities for parishioners of all ages. This could mean guest speakers, parish missions, small faith groups, group studies, or other special events. Join this team to help create opportunities for all members of our parish community.
